I need to be the best Mum that I can be for my daughter.

Which is why I am cancelling the NorthHantsMum 2016 Christmas Expo.

Some of you may remember that in August last year we moved from the old WordPress site to the new NorthHantsMum.co.uk site. In May of this year my technical “person” advised me that she couldn’t support the site anymore. She left me floundering. I literally had NO IDEA what to do with the back end of the site.

I’ve spent the past six months trying to sort things out in the back end and it’s been very, very, VERY frustrating and stressful. In April of this year I was advised to switch off the old wordpress site which means that I can’t reactive it, so I can’t even go back to that.

My aim is to post every week day. You may have noticed that I have randomly stop posting every so often, in the past six months. It’s not because I don’t want too, it’s because I literally can’t post anything because something has happened in the back end site. Again.

I’ve “wasted” a lot of energy in the past six months trying to sort stuff out behind the scenes. My stress levels have rocketed. It’s affecting the most important relationships to me and it’s knocked my confidence in NHM. I want to have the energy and head space to write some more personal posts which I just don’t have the time for anymore.

When Mr NHM came up with the idea that I raise money for a bench, a safe place for Mum’s to meet in a local popular park, I was totally up for running another Expo to raise funds to this. I put out a plea asking for help and am so very grateful to all those who have volunteered.

Even with all of this help, I just can’t run the Expo this year. My sanity will not remain if I go ahead. Last year, when the electric was off until 2 minutes into the start of the Expo (1.5 hours setting up in the dark!?!?!?!), I was practically catatonic. It takes me three weeks to get over an Expo, the planning, the stress and all of the table moving and cleaning up after, when things go “well”, let alone when they don’t. My hips have never been quite the same after having to move 48 tables for the 2015 Spring Expo.

In March I did the 2016 Spring Expo whilst suffering from flu. 100 people booked tickets and 15 people turned up. I worked so hard to make it a successful event, whilst feeling dreadful, and it was so frustrating when it didn’t come together.

So, for the sake of my sanity and my family I am cancelling the Expo this Christmas.

I’m very sorry to all of those people I am disappointing but hopefully you understand why I have to do this.

Hopefully I will get the technical issues sorted out in the background and then I will be able to focus my attention on the bit I love, providing quality content and support to local Mum’s.

Thank you for your understanding. x

(I am posting this from my phone, which I’ve never done before, so not even sure if this post will work!)

NorthHantsMum Facebook Groups for you to Join!

Over the past few years I’ve set up several groups on Facebook for all sorts of different segments of parents in North Hampshire.

Several have flourished so I thought I would share them with you again, so you can see if any are relevant to you.

Many parents have also met face to face via these groups, so if you are looking to meet other parents who have some of the same interests as you please add me as a friend at “Louise nhm Smith” on Facebook and then message me to let me know which groups you would like to join.

They are all either a “closed” status or “secret” status so people cannot see what has been posted.

If they are “secret” only those in the group can find the group, so no one will know you have been added unless they are already part of the group.

If you would like to be added any of them, please email me at NorthHantsMum@gmail.com (I can’t keep track on facebook!).

Feel free to invite anyone else who you think may benefit.

These groups are a great way to meet like minded parents!

Announcing the NorthHantsMum Christmas Expo 2016!!!

After the last NHM Expo I said I wouldn’t do another Expo. But then I was talking to Mr NHM after I posted something on “Louise nhm Smith” in July, about people struggling.

Mr NHM came up with the awesome idea of having a “NHM bench” in one of the local parks, a safe place for Mum’s to meet that would be dedicated to local Mum’s.

I spoke to my lovely contact in the council and found out that to have a bench like this would cost around £500, so I put my thinking cap on about how I could raise funds for this bench…

Guess what I came up with, yup, raising the funds via another Expo ;-).

The NHM Christmas Expo is always a brilliant event and very well attended, plus this will be my fourth Expo, so I’m pretty well versed in what needs to be done ;-).

It’s going to be AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!

NorthHantsMum Christmas Expo: THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know – you are probably REALLY bored of my thank you emails, but I’m afraid it needs to be done!!! 😀

I think it went well this morning. It’s always such an anti-climax after the Expo and I never really get to “enjoy” the event cause I’m running around like a blue **** fly trying to ensure it all goes smoothly!

I’ve had some lovely feedback already though, so I think everyone enjoyed themselves.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you to everyone who came along today!!! (and thank you for your patience during my “thank you’s” at the beginning of the raffle. I’m still cringing! lol).

I couldn’t run the Expo’s without you all coming along, so thank you for making the effort to come along!

Thank you very much to my “core” team.

  • Sophie – THANK YOU for helping Hayley in the kitchen. You are such a fab friend who is always happy to volunteeer to help out with NHM stuff, so THANK YOU!!! Really couldn’t do it without you.
  • Lynne – AWESOME help today! You did a fab job selling raffle tickets AND hoovering up at the end. Thank you!!!
  • Abi – who is always Uber supportive of NHM to the extent that she did the re-designing of the new website! Thank you!!!
  • Lowri – Thank you for being my gopher this morning!!! Really couldn’t have done the front desk without your help today.

Kim and Father Christmas and his Elf from Routine Riots  – I had glowing feedback about Father Christmas and his Elf, even after the Elf managed to leave her car  unlocked and her driver door wide open (thanks Mel for letting me know!) and Father Christmas and his Reindeer got stuck in air traffic :-D. NHM events wouldn’t be the same without Routine Riots!

JV Bouncy Castle Hire team – Thank you to John, Nathan and the team for letting us use your softplay equipment. I highly recommend these guys if you are looking for bouncy castles or softplay equipment. They are lovely and ultra professional!

Christ church Chineham – Thank you to Ruth and the rest of her team for letting us use the premises and for doing whatever it was that they did to ensure that the electricity came on at 10.02am this morning!!!?!?!

Thank you to Hayley at Impish Delights for your fab pop up tea room and Lucy at Lucy Crick Photography for your professionalism and fab pictures! lol.

Thank you to all of the stall holders and taster session ladies who came along today. I was sooooo grateful to those of you who turned up early and who stayed behind to help tidy up.  Big thanks to Tracy from Eden Reborn and her children who helped me put most of the tables out in the morning!

I’m so lucky that you are all so very supportive and willing to muck in and help out! It really took the pressure off today knowing that you were all so supportive!

Finally, thank you to Mr NHM who puts up with me organising these events and who was happy to take a day off work to help out and a big thank you to Miss NHM who is my inspiration for NHM!

Raffle Prizes

There were quite a few unclaimed raffle prizes but I have everyone’s mobile number so will try to get everything sorted this evening so I can call you to let you know if you’ve won anything.

Money Raised

At first count, it looks like we raised over £650 for Piam Brown Children’s Ward, so THANK YOU to everyone who contributed to this!

I know that Carrie and her little boy “T” are very grateful for this money which will be made to Piam Brown ward in their name.

Thank you!!!!!!!!
