Messy Monkey Makers

Hi my name is Kerry and I am the owner of Messy Monkey Makers in Basingstoke, some of you may remember it previously being called Messy Monsters!  I bought and took over the business in April of this year and since then I have been busy rebranding and putting lots of new exciting messy play classes, it’s all been very exciting.

So more about Messy Monkey Makers, my classes are fun, exciting, sensory and messy exploration classes for age 6 months to 5 years!

Our classes offer your little monkey an environment to explore their imagination, concentration and freedom of expression in a fun, safe and non-restricted environment.  We can offer them the chance to explore using resources such as sand, water, slime, paint, playdough and much more! This enables them to understand how things feel, smell, sound, taste all which can support their development.

At Messy Monkey Makers it’s not about the finished product, it’s about the process. We do not make things that are perfect we make things that are squidgy, squelchy, crafty, creative, splodgy, sparkly and most of all messy. Our aim is to empower children of all ages and ability through creativity.

Mess without the stress!

Classes run during term time on a Tuesday and Friday starting at 10:30am and are ran out of Popley Fields Community Centre.  I also run special events once a month on a Sunday and also have events during the school holidays.

Drop in’s are available for £6 but need to be booked in advance and are subject to availability.

Baby Paddlers

Baby Paddlers is a small swim school which has grown across Hampshire and is really excited to be opening a new pool in Odiham. Our teachers are trained and recruited to always be looking at the best way for you and your child to have fun in the water. Our values are honest, approachable, positive, progressive, exciting and encouraging….our own version of how to create lots of HAPPEE little swimmers! Cheesy as this sounds this is at the forefront of everything we do, we offer a flexibility with our unique catch up system to ensure customers do not miss a week swimming!

Our Milestones programme with our colourful characters was launched in 2017 and has been a fantastic way to track how all swimmers are progressing and gives teachers a brilliant guide to follow all our children through their development on a group and individual basis. We love seeing our preschoolers graduate at the end of their swimming years with us.

Our newborn classes are held in warm pools and focus on bonding with your baby, gentle activities to introduce them to the water at the right pace for each child. Teachers use the milestones programme and talk to parents to ensure this goes at the right speed and when they are ready to move on we can introduce them to the beauty of being underwater and to slowly learning how to hold on, play with toys and use their senses to enjoy the water.

Once they reach the right stage we move on to swooshing them around the water and lots and lots of jumping which the older babies and toddlers absolutely love and will giggle creating the fun environment which will set them up for a love of the water!

Our main aim is to develop water confidence using toys, songs and lots of fun. Word association and recognition is a big part of what we do, encouraging children to kick, paddle, swim, jump, hold on – all so important in the early years.

Our baby and toddler swimming classes have a maximum of 8 and our preschool classes a maximum of 6, this ensures that your child is in a fun group environment but has the opportunity for one on one time with the teacher.

The Milestones programme is designed to help you understand the stages and learning milestones that your child will progress through as part of the Baby Paddlers journey. Every stage has been created to ensure focus on a number of key development areas, from physical and sensory development to swimming milestones that they will reach during these early years. No two children are the same so the programme is designed to offer flexibility in teaching so our teachers can tailor their classes to meet the needs of the children. There are four stages and each stage has 3 levels.

At Baby Paddlers we absolutely love what we do, all teachers revel in teaching parents to have fun in the water with their children, come and find out more about us and get in touch to book a course or to come along to a summer special to see what we are all about.

Drama Tots Basingstoke

Hi, my name is Kate and I run Drama Tots Basingstoke, an award winning preschool activity for 18mnth-4 yr olds. Having trained professionally in musical theatre, I have worked extensively with children, both in a theatrical and teaching capacity.

Our classes use original music, props, puppets and our imaginations to take you and your little ones on new and exciting adventures each week. Having been designed with the EYFS curriculum in mind, many of our activities have educational benefits as well as being lots of fun. Our nurturing environment means that our classes help to bring confidence to shyer children as well as harnessing the creative sides of those who are already more extrovert.

Classes start back from Monday the 10th September and run on a weekly basis during term time. We offer 3 week trial packages for £12 which give you a good overview of what it is all about.

I will also be doing a taster session at Playdays soft-play on Tuesday the 18th September at 10am, (normal entrance fee applies) where you can take part in a class and have time in the soft play as well.

New Class – Muddy Fingers

Muddy Fingers is an educational and creative gardening and nature club for 2 to 5 year olds. Our goal is to develop children’s interest and curiosity in nature, through fun and practical activities.

In a variety of stimulating ways we will explore different themes around growing, nature and the seasons through singing, storytelling, craft, digging, planting, tasting and exploring. Children will learn about growing food, the importance of plants and flowers and looking after the environment. This enables children to have a respect and understanding for living things in the world around them.

The benefits of gardening have been well documented and are great for promoting well-rounded development in children. Whether the garden is pots on a windowsill, a community patch or right out the back door, kids who engage with it are harvesting much more than food and flowers. Gardening equipment and resources are provided. Children will be able to take home what they have planted and made after each session.

Term classes are blocks of 5 weeks costing £40.00 and are to be booked in advance. A free taster class is available for all new customers.

Reasons to Be Active in Basingstoke this summer – Friday 17th August

Children of all ages from throughout Hampshire can put their best foot forward to try a new sport as free event, Be Active, will take over Basingstoke town centre on Friday 17 August from 11am until 5pm.

At Be Active, children of all ages from as young as two-years-old will have the opportunity to try their hand at a wide range of sports. The activities on offer will include a Rugby obstacle challenge from Basingstoke RFC, a penalty shootout with Basingstoke Town FC, a 20ft climbing wall, crazy golf and much more.

There will also be arts and crafts, face painting, soft play, inflatable games, roaming entertainers and a deck chair chill out zone, providing something for everyone whilst the children indulge their sporty sides.

The event is being run and organised by Basingstoke Together, which is the face of the Basingstoke Business Improvement District (BID). The BID’s aim is to help Basingstoke town centre to thrive by creating destination events, engaging with consumers and supporting retailers and businesses.

Lucy Boazman, chief executive of Basingstoke Together, said: “The summer holidays are the perfect opportunity to make the most of the great outdoors by trying something new – Be Active is about just that. Children don’t need to have any experience with the sports on offer as the aim of the game is to just have fun and maybe find a hidden passion.

“It is so important for children to get regular exercise and taking part in a sport is a great way to do so. We hope to see lots of children of all ages joining in with Be Active and enjoying the variety of activities and entertainment which will be on offer.”

Be Active will take place throughout the top of town, including Winchester Road, London Street, Wote Street and into Festival Square.

AlphaBetty Adventures

AlphaBetty Adventures is a new multi-sensory pre-school class in Basingstoke. These new classes are planned, designed and performed by Lee-Anne (A.K.A Betty) who is a mother of two and a lover of messy play (having been an artist and teacher for over 16 years).

Each session supports the Early Years Foundation Stage so they are educational, interactive, immersive and fun for children and their adults!

In the classes children aged 2-5 learn how to create emotional bonds with each other and adults whilst exploring a range of story telling, multi-sensory and messy play activities in our hour long sessions. Children will meet Betty and her magical big red book that has new and exciting puppets each week to guide them through imaginative and exciting stories and play.

The sessions are run as blocks of letters from the alphabet starting with the letter “A”.  Our first introductory session is being run on 20th July 2018 at Oakridge Hall for All from 10-11am £6 per session. The first session in entitled A…for Alan and is inspired by the book “I need a wee” by Sue Hendra. This story is set in a fairground where children will be doing some fairground games, cake decorating for Claude’s party, singing some songs at a monkey’s tea party and finally taking part in an international dance competition!

Parents can book up to the trial session and see if this is the class for them and their children. As a little thank you, if you book onto the following block of sessions (Letters B-E) you will get that first class at half price.

All sessions are interactive and will involve some sort of messy activity such as cake decorating, face painting, dinosaur excavation to name a few (so wet wipes need to be on hand just in case it all gets a bit messy!).

Being a parent it can be tricky to attend groups suitable for all your children. Therefore babies up to 1 can come to each session with a paying sibling for free. For older siblings between the age of 2-5 there is a 10 % discount on the block sessions.

Also during the school holidays siblings who are 5+ can come along and support their younger siblings, or entertain themselves in our large community hall.

Later in the year we will be running alternative days and locations so please get in touch if you would like AlphaBetty Adventures to come to a location near you! Also if you are interested in us coming to a nursery, pre-school or infants school we’d love to hear from you!

For more information, news, offers and a peek at some videos of the activities that will take place in the sessions please visit the website: https://leeannehampson.wixsite.com/alphabettyadventures
Or follow us on Facebook: AlphaBetty Adventures

To book a place on the introductory session or block bookings please email: alphabetty_adventures@hotmail.com

We look forward to seeing you soon X
