Coloured Whispers

Hi, I am Iulia, mother of two and owner of Coloured Whispers – a re-invention of the typical flower arrangement business, i.e. unusual flower arrangements and table centrepieces that last up to 10 years.

What sets these arrangements apart from the live and artificial ones is not only the unique melange of natural elements, but also their longevity; lack of maintenance required; the fact that they are dust-free and they absorb all the moisture in the room. We use only natural, organic elements throughout the whole process – including packaging. Every piece that we create is a unique hybrid – made up of real, preserved flowers along with Iceland reindeer moss.

We are definitely not the typical high-street florists but more of a shabby chic, boutique type of business. We cater to anyone who wants to offer a special, long-lasting gift; pubs; restaurants; coffee shops; wedding suppliers and offices.

All By Mama

I’m looking for creative mums and to set them up selling their beautiful creations on our dedicated online marketplace called All By Mama (www.allbymama.com).

I’ve got two little ones myself, Sophie, 3 and Alessia, 2 and I know how trickey it can be juggling work around family life, but I love it.

All By Mama is a really lovely mother-daughter team that set up last November with 30 mums and we are now rapidly nearing 200. Our focus is supporting those creative mums out there.

Family is at the very heart of the business and that’s not all. Mamas can network with like-minded people, join our Mamas Little Helper Children’s Club for their mini VIPs and attract investors to the business.

You can see more at www.allbymama.com or on Facebook  or Twitter.

As a business we are growing fast and we’ve received several awards and endorsements for our innovative approach – most notably from Baroness Karren Brady (Pantene #ShineStrong award), Jacqueline Gold (#WOW award) and Kirstie Allsopp (The Handmade Fair).

It’s a straight-forward and very fair cost set up of £25 for a shop front and then 10% commission on sales.

If this is appealing to any mums out there, take a look at the site and get in touch, We’d love to hear from you. cress@allbymama.com

Lovellie Cakes

Thank you to Louise at NorthHantsMums for the opportunity to tell you about Lovellie Cakes.

My name is Jane Lovell, I’ve always loved making and eating cakes! I have 2 children who take up a lot of my time but I am pleased to have found an activity I enjoy and can do at home around them, so in April 2014 I launched Lovellie cakesI make individually designed and great tasting cakes and cupcakes.

My mum was a great cook and as children we always had homemade birthday cakes, however she always regretted not learning learnt to decorate cakes properly. In 2013 I took her on 2 cake decorating courses. We had lots of fun and at the age of 78 she loved finally having the courage to attend classes.

Sadly my mum died in Dec 2013. I found it a great distraction to continue to learn and make cakes for my family and friends and realised not only did I love it I was actually good at it! In April I decided to become self-employed, register my kitchen and get insurance and Lovellie Cakes became real!

I am very proud when I see what I have achieved and how far I have come. These are my son’s birthday cake from 2012 and 2014:

Having a focus for me has really helped and in 2014 I had the opportunity to make some great cakes, for some lovely peoplefor all occasions, birthdays, baby showers, christening and weddings.

All were a new challenge whether it was taking a wedding cake 600 miles, battling with fondant on the hottest day of the year, finding a compromise between a bride that loves icing and a groom that doesn’t, carving a cake into a trainer or having to consult my brother the scientist on how on to make ‘frozen ice’ from mints!

I am very realistic as to what I can make for customers but I do love a challenge. I am pleased to be able to offer gluten and dairy free cakes. I like to make cakes or cupcakes that are very personal to the customer and taste great. I enjoy the planning stage and then seeing the finished product.

In 2015 I hopeto continue to promote Lovellie Cakes, increase my customer base and make great cakes! My favourite quote is “A party without cake is a meeting!

Please have a look at my facebook page Lovellie cakes and give me a like.

Hope you all have a happy, healthy and successful New Year. xx

Multiple prints can be included at no extra charge. Different combinations of designs can be accommodated including adding gem stones for an extra bit of sparkle. Many different shapes and style of charms are available to choose from

Don’t worry if you are not able to make an appointment. You can request a  fingerprint, handprint or footprint kit to do in the comfort of your home. It is very easy to do, safe and not at all messy.

For children’s doodles, you simply need to email a scanned copy of your child’s picture they have drawn.

Sew the Seams

Sew the Seams will be at the September NHM Meet Up on Friday, if you would like to speak to them directly about their products.

Sew the Seams

Sew the seams is made up of three crafty mums who all have different areas of design.

Between us we create handmade felt and fabric items for your children.

This includes cushions, blankets, playmats, mobiles, dribble bibs and sensory tag blankets.

All of the items are made to order and can be personalised to suit your individual needs, you can choose fabrics, colours and themes.

I am Chloe and have a 12 week old son. I learnt to sew at school and have always been very creative.

I made lots of items for my son’s nursery whilst pregnant and friends and family commented I should sell similar items.

I started Sew the seams whilst on maternity leave to sell individual handmade items to offer a bespoke feel to your children’s nurseries and bedrooms.

Rhi learnt to sew from her mum and creates items such as dummy clips personalised with your childs name aswell as dribble bibs.

Rhi has a 6 month old daughter and has filled her nursery with beautiful handmade items.

Bunting, cot pockets and blankets all made by Rhi surround her daughter and now you too can buy these amazing products.

Charlene is mum to an eleven year old daughter and has always enjoyed making items for their home.

Charlene makes handmade rugs, fairylight garlands and personalised Christmas decorations.

With the items being made to order you can request even the most unusual names to be created into a bespoke decoration for your tree.

Pop over to our Facebook page www.Facebook.com/sewtheseams to take a look at the full range of items avaliable.

We are always happy to help and create the items you wish to see in your home so please do not hesitate to contact us.

Thank you!
