Review 2017: Thrive Massage Therapy

A few months ago I noticed a sign on the side of a car about a local massage business and thought, ooh, I really must check that out. About two weeks later Nicola messaged me asking if I would like to review her massage business – Thrive Massage Therapy. Turns out it was her!!  I thought for less than a second before accepting her lovely offer!

Initially Nicola had a Guest post on NorthHanstMum because I wasn’t available for the first month after she contacted me. These days I’m really busy in the evening as well as the day times and Nicola was very accommodating of my schedule. Nicola takes bookings via her website, phone, text or email. We arranged a date and she sent me instructions of how to get to hers.

I found Nicola’s house really easily, she has a Thrive Massage picture in the window and her house number sign is lit up, so it’s obvious which is her house.

My first impressions were, WOW! How TIDY is her downstairs! lol. Nicola welcomed me and led me into her massage room. I was (and still am!) sooo impressed!!! Her massage room is AMAZING! It’s a purpose built room, built just for Nicola’s massage business. It’s the space that would be a garage so it’s quite large and she has lots of lovely storage and a large massage couch with lots of space around it. I’ve had massages at many other places over the years and the rooms are always TINY, many with not enough space for the masseuse to comfortably walk around. Nicola’s massage room has lots of space and such a lovely ambience. She even has the plug sockets built in so that they are under her massage table, so she doesn’t have to walk over cables!

One of the things I was most impressed with is all of the marketing that Nicola has, it’s so professional. It’s obvious that a LOT of thought has gone into Nicola’s business and how she markets her services. Even the towels she uses match her theme colour!!!! These little details are so important and really helped me to feel like I was dealing with someone who really cares about her business.

I also really liked that all of her qualification certificates are up on one wall, behind the door, which gave me a nice warm feeling that she knows what she’s doing!!!

The massage room is very welcoming and exactly what you would want in a massage room.

The Massage

We had a chat before the massage started, so Nicola could check whether I had any health issues that she needed to be aware of. The room was soo relaxing, I nearly fell asleep then! Dimmed lights, candles, lovely smells and music that’s actually soothing during a massage.
The room was the perfect heat too.

I had a massage a few years ago, at a local spa, where the massuese was pregnant so she had a dehumidifier in the room which kept the heat down to 17 degrees ( I knew this because I could see the red screen telling me it was 17 degrees all through my massage). As she was heavily pregnant I didn’t feel I could ask her to turn the heat up but I was FREEZING which ruined the whole experience. Nicola’s room temperature is just perfect.

Nicola’s massage couch can be heated, which was wonderful. The towels were lovely and soft and I could have happily gone to sleep there with or without a massage! lol.

Ok, so I know I’m always positive on reviews but the massage with Nicola was AMAZING!!! Definitely one of the best massages I’ve ever had. I was convinced that she used hot stones, but it’s just her hands and arms that she uses. It never felt like she was going through the motions either. I’ve had massages before where the masseuse clearly doesn’t want to be there and it feels like they are doing the “dot to dot” massage on your back. Nicola’s style wasn’t like this at all. It was very fluid and didn’t feel stilted.

Before the hour long massage started Nicola had asked me if there were any specific areas that I wanted her to focus on. I’ve had persistent shoulder pain for the past 6 months and despite having physio and acupuncture it’s still not properly fixed. I was a little apprehensive that she would “go to town” on my shoulder, like I’ve had other masseuse’s do and has meant that I’ve been in agony for weeks after. Nicola used EXACTLY the right pressure. Sometimes when you come out of a massage you feel a bit bruised and battered but I felt exactly as I wanted to feel when the massage was finished. She even found bits of me that I didn’t know were tense!! I came out of my massage feeling really relaxed and “flexible”.

One of my favourite bits was at the end of the massage. Nicola has an tea caddy filled with lots and lots of herbal teas and she lets you take one home with you. Such a lovely and thoughtful idea. Nicola also reminded me to drink lots of water and take it easy for the rest of the evening. She also gave me an aftercare leaflet with advice about what to do after a massage to make the most of it and a stamped addressed envelope which had a feedback form in, which if I completed and sent back to Nicola, meant that I would be entered in to her draw to win a free massage!!!

Rating out of 5

Definitely 5 out of 5!!

I felt really pampered and it’s definitely one of the best massages I’ve ever had. My skin felt amazing afterwards and my shoulder has felt much better since my massage with Nicola.

I used to get my massages done at my local spa/gym but having had two massages with Nicola (I went back as a paying customer and my massage was just as good!), I won’t be going back to the spa at the gym. The quality of service that you get from Nicola is far above what you get from an impersonal service like a massage at a gym.

I HIGHLY recommend Nicola’s personally tailored massages.  Thrive Massage: www.thrivemassage.co.uk

Review 2017: MummaBfit Post Natal Fitness Classes

Thank you very much to the NHM Writer for today’s Secret Review!!! Fantastic job!

MummaBfit Post Natal Fitness Classes Review

About

The Facebook page can be found here… MummaBfit

“Postnatal Exercise Classes; for mum and baby to escape the house, have a gentle workout and meet new people and enjoy a cuppa tea and chocolate buttons afterwards”.

Having used Vicky Tidy as my personal trainer, I jumped at the chance when she asked me if I would like to join her MummaBFit sessions to see if they worked with a toddler, not just a baby.

I think I possibly speak for lots of mums, whether that be first time mums or if you are doing it second or third etc time over; It’s hard to get out and about with a little one, especially meeting new people and some groups I have gone to have been a bit cliquey. I personally have really struggled, and being a “bigger” lady I was all too aware that I would probably be the biggest there! I needn’t have worried! We were in a small group, 4 mums, 3 babies and my little man!

Everybody was lovely and friendly.

The workouts always begin with step ups on an aerobic step to get your heart pumping.

The workouts are well geared up for new mum’s who have not long given birth and Vicky encourages everybody to stop if it’s not comfortable for you.

During my first 6 week course we have done a variety of exercises from press ups to lunges, using weights to planks. We have also used different equipment and have been shown how to use it properly.

When babies need feeding or even just a cuddle with mummy (or Vicky!) then you just do what you need to do, no problems with stopping workout.

I was worried that having a toddler with little babies would be a nightmare, however Vicky kindly set up a playpen with toys and an iPad with Peppa Pig on for my little boy. If he’s not happy I do get him out and he has a wander around the room but obviously always watching near the babies. There has never been any problems at all.

Vicky is now including toddlers into courses, so please do have a look and see which session would suit you.

In short, I have found this to be a great way to work out with my son being around and also a great way to meet other mums. I have gained much more confidence and stepped totally out of my comfort zone and have had very positive results. So positive in fact. that I have now signed up for a 2nd round of the course!

Tips

  • Wear appropriate workout clothes.
  • If you are breastfeeding ensure you can still do so whilst in your workout clothes.
  • Bring water with you, you’ll need it.

Food

There are biscuits and a cup of tea supplied after the workout where we sit and have a chat.

Parking

Monday 12.30pm course – This is currently the downside: Parking is on the narrow country road outside Oakley’s St Leonards centre.

There are plenty of other sessions on various days at various times throughout Basingstoke so have a look and pick one that suits you.

Prices

Prices on application.

Rating

I give this 5*

“Tots Play – Every Class Your Child Needs In One!”

Hi, my name is Michelle and I am the owner of Tots Play Basingstoke and Hook. Whilst on maternity leave with my second baby I was faced with the dilemma that all mums go through when having to decide what they are going to do about work, did I want to go back or not, what was I going to do if I didn’t go back etc. After weighing up my options I decided to start my own business, and after lots of research I decided that buying into the franchise and bringing Tots Play to my area was the way to go! When I saw the Tots Play programme I was immediately impressed and it struck me as the type of class that I would have loved to take my children to, so I made my investment, completed my training and Tots Play Basingstoke and Hook was born in June 2015!

Tots Play provides unique, multi activity play classes for babies and toddlers, from birth up to around 3 years as well as a nursery programme and birthday party entertainment for up to 5 years old. Classes contain a mix of yoga, massage, signing, music and sensory play, to aid development with fun!

I was delighted to launch Tots Play at Sherfield Park Community Centre in June 2015 and since then I have been running 3 different classes aimed at different age groups, every Monday morning at the Community Centre. I also run classes on a Thursday afternoon at Christ Church, Chineham.

The three different classes are as follows:

Baby Development Course – suitable from birth – Short course where you will learn fun ways to play, interact and communicate with your new baby, including massage, yoga, music, sign language, and lots more. A great place to meet new mums.

Discovery Tots – From 8 weeks – Stimulate, delight, and boost the development of all baby’s senses at this fun, interactive class with yoga based movement, music, sensory play, sign language and more.

Social Tots – From 8 months – Older babies and toddlers will love to join in with a wide range of physical, musical, sensory and social play activities, learning and fun – all in one!

The Baby Development Course is a 6 week course with the next ones starting w/c February 27th (limited spaces remaining for these course so please complete the booking form at www.totsplay.co.uk/basingstoke to reserve your place) The course costs £60, and this fee includes a full colour workbook, CD of the music used in class and a bottle of massage oil so that you can practice everything you learn at home.

The ongoing classes (Discovery and Social Tots) run throughout term time and can be joined at any time during the term. For those new to Tots Play I offer three classes as a trial period for the discounted price of just £15 for the three sessions.

Take a look at the timetable to see when and where the classes are running:

In addition to the weekly classes I also provide Tots Play parties to help you celebrate your child’s birthday or any other family occasions, and I also sell some of the resources that we use in class so you can continue the fun at home, ie foil blankets, flashing balls, scarves etc.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this, I hope to see you soon!

Michelle 🙂

I will leave you with some customer testimonials:

“I’ve been taking my daughter to this class since she was 13 weeks and she loves it! With a fab combination of sensory, yoga and signing I’ve seen her development really come on, she loves the interaction with the other babies and all the singing and actions to the songs, she smiles all the way through!! And I come away with a very sleepy baby! A fantastic class with a great price and Michelle is fantastic, super friendly and remembers what my daughter enjoys every class. I’ve signed up for the whole term, the summer sessions and will definitely sign up for the next term!! Would definitely recommend!”  – Karen and Maya

“I took my daughter Freya to a taster session of this class and she loved it so much we have carried on going ever since. She loves the singing and exploring the sensory play (particularly the pool full of jelly!) – I would recommend this class to others” – Kate and Freya

“Our little boy loved his baby development classes. Michelle was really friendly and very clear with what we needed to do! Looking forward to the next term” – Keri and Jensen

“Florence isn’t a very confident child and can take a while to warm up, but she’s really got into Tots Play. Michelle is brilliant and Flo loves her, there’s singing and dancing and sensory play bits and Florence loves all of it. I enjoy the fact that it’s really involved and the children really focus on what they are doing, and I don’t have to deal with the mess at home! Michelle makes everyone feel welcome and is really good at looking after the new people. Florence gets excited when she knows we’re going, she really enjoys it.” – Rosie & Florence

Inspirational Mum’s: “The Boppypants and the pants that blew off”

image1

Hello

I would like to tell you a bit about what me and another local mum have been up too.

Wendy and I have been working since November on creating a children’s story book based on a story Wendy wrote over a year ago.

We have made her dream words on paper turn into a fab (if I do say so myself) children’s book called “The Boppypants and the pants that blew off”.

On Thursday we received a order of 50 of our books and launched our website and Facebook page …. today we have sold out! And have a second delivery of 50 coming Friday!!

This story is the first in a series of books we are going to be writing with the second coming out end of march hopefully.

The website is www.boppypants.com and the Facebook page is www.facebook.com/Boppypants

You will find images on both and a sneak reveal of the book on the website.

My name is Nicola Bates and I set up Thrive Massage Therapy (www.thrivemassage.co.uk) after having my second child. I offer quality massage therapy which can give both physical benefit and the opportunity to mentally relax and unwind.

I am an ITEC and BTEC qualified massage therapist, fully insured, DBS checked and a member of the Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT) and Complementary Therapists Association (CThA). I offer holistic body massage, deep tissue therapeutic massage and Indian head massage from my purpose built home therapy room in Chineham, Basingstoke. I have also undertaken specialist pregnancy massage training and can offer massage for mums-to-be.

My aim is to offer a ‘spa level’ professional, yet personal experience, with bespoke and effective treatments, so that my clients can feel a real benefit from their visit. People come purely to relax and indulge in some rare ‘me time’, or to feel relief from specific aches and pains. Every treatment and person is different, and although I describe treatments on my website to give an overview, each massage is specific and tailored to the individual.

New Class!!! Buggyfit

buggyfit-basingstoke-1

Good for Mums launches Buggyfit classes in Basingstoke which are run by a friendly local mum who is a qualified fitness instructor and specialises in pre and postnatal exercise.

Why a Buggyfit Fitness Instructor not just like any other Trainer……. I gained a lot of weight before falling pregnant and couldn’t diet once i knew i was expecting. Once my son was born I had around 7 stones to lose to bring me to a healthy weight but going back to an office job didn’t help matters and its only in the past year that I have lost four of the seven stones.

I started a local running group for mums and rediscovered my love for exercise. I found that I really enjoyed running with mummies and love the support other women can bring to each other when going through similar life events. I tried some buggy fit classes while on maternity leave and enjoyed them so much I decided to become a trainer.

I’m just a normal mum, who has sleepless nights, wobbly bits, enjoys a glass of wine but knows how important it is to take time for yourself as a new mum. Buggyfit works so well because the little one comes too but you get the social aspect of being with other mums and the support and skills a specialist pre and postnatal fitness instructor can offer. Classes are designed to be safe no matter what your postnatal stage but also challenge you in the right way.
In addition to Buggyfit I run a baby free circuit class for mums (postnatal and beyond) in St Peters Church, South Ham on a Tuesday evening at 7pm. Please see my website for more information and updates.

Buggyfit classes run all year and at weekends too ! So whether your a working mum, juggling a school run, toddlers, babies or just the chaos that is modern life, there should be a class which suits your busy schedule.

Classes run in all weather so its important to wear layers you can remove if you get hot while working out however, the little ones are not moving around so snuggle them up in a buggy with blankets, hats and gloves to keep them snuggly and warm.

Its important to remember that your body has been through a lot to carry your precious baby, so treat it kindly, bring water and a snack for both you and the little one. All mums are welcome to join a class as long as you’ve had your six week check with your GP (eight weeks post c’section) and have been given the all clear.

More information, tips, what to wear, what to bring and what to expect can be found on the Buggyfit Basingstoke Facebook page or www.goodformums.co.uk
Classes are filling up fast so if you want to secure a place please contact via the website or Facebook page to check availability.
Hope to see you at a class soon!

Baby & Child Resuscitation Course

img_3468

Hello my name is Natasha Jones and I am a mum to four beautiful children. During the summer of 2010 my daughter Ava-Mai (who was 11 weeks old at the time) experienced an episode known as Near Miss Cot Death. She stopped breathing and was drifting in and out of consciousness. At the time I had no resuscitation training and it was just my maternal instincts that kept Ava-Mai going.   We had to wait 36 minutes for an ambulance, as co-responders were not sent to under ones by Ambulance Service.

As result of this together with my husband we set up Baby and Child Resuscitation Courses in the New Forest. These are funded by a £10 donation per attendee to cover the cost of the Resuscitation Trainer, the venue hire and publicity.  We are a not for profit voluntary organisation and as organisers we do not take wages, salaries or benefits of any kind.

The course involves a full demonstration of resuscitation and choking techniques for Baby or Infant  (newborn to 1 year old) and Child (1 year old to puberty), then time for the attendees to have a try themselves followed by questions. The course costs £10 per person, which includes handouts covering all aspects of the course, and refreshments.  Payment is required at the time of booking to confirm your place. Babies are welcome but please note we do not provide a sitting service.

img_3811

I have campaigned to get changes made to the Ambulance Service protocol and these are now in place. I have also worked with the Paediatric Sub-Committee of the Resuscitation Council who developed guidance on what should be taught and listed the core competencies that should be achieved, we use this in our training.  Our training is given by Resuscitation Officers who work at Southampton General Hospital.

In 2014 I won a Venus Award Influential Women of the Year. Then in 2015 I won Tesco Community Mum of the Year Award and received a Point of Light Award from the Prime Minster. I had also worked with and supported St John Ambulance with their Baby CPR Campaigns this year.

I am passionate about parents, grandparents and carers learning these potentially lifesaving skills at very little cost. I have a petition online to have resuscitation as part of antenatal or postnatal care. It will be sent to the Department of Health, along with support from our local MP Dr Julian Lewis. I am asking at every opportunity for people to support us by following this link & signing http://tinyurl.com/cbnrw5t ,please forward to friends & family for them to sign too.picture-3

We now have venues in New Forest, Bournemouth, Southampton, Winchester, Whiteley and Basingstoke. On Saturday 25th February 2017 we are coming to Popley Fields Community Centre, Basingstoke, from 10am to 12pm.

Many thanks for taking the time to read this, please contact me if you have any questions about what we do at info@babyresuscitation.co.uk alternatively please visit our website www.babyresuscitation.co.uk

A Guest post vs. a Review on NorthHantsMum

I seem to have confused a few people recently with Guest Posts and Reviews, so I thought I would do a quick post to clarify how they both work on NorthHantsMum.

A Guest Post vs. a Review on NorthHantsMum

Guest posts on NorthHantsMum (NHM) feature small local businesses in Hampshire and Berkshire that are relevant to parents who live in North Hampshire.

Guest posts are written by each business owner and I publish them every Wednesday on NHM. If you’d like to see what previous people have written for their Guests posts, please see the following link: http://www.northhantsmum.co.uk/guest-posts-2/

There are over 2300 people who are readers of NHM, so you would have the opportunity to publicise your business to a wide network of parents.

However, I do need to make you aware that Facebook has changed it’s “rules” so now only 10% of the people who are subscribed to the NHM FB page see my posts. Please ensure that as many of your network “Share, Like and Comment” on your published post so that the post has more reach on Facebook.

Please email your guest post to me at NorthHantsMum@gmail.com. If you could get your post to me before the Friday, that would be very helpful as I do most of my blog work over the weekend. Please also send any photo’s in .JPEG format, otherwise I won’t be able to use them.

Please note that I also write Review posts featuring local places, local products and local experiences. http://www.northhantsmum.co.uk/category/things-to-do/reviews-2/ If I’m not able to write the Review I have a team of NHM Writers who will review your product or place for you and write the Review.

If you would like me to write a review on your product or place, please email me at NorthHantsMum@gmail.com.

All Guest Posts on NorthHantsMum are free. It is absolutely fine to have both a Guest post AND a Review on NHM.

In return for your posts, I would ask that you share NHM’s details with your network.
