New Class: Relaxation class for adults

Kath’s new class look absolutely brilliant and exactly what I need!

So, I’ve been running Relax Kids classes on a regular basis since January this year, working in schools pre-schools and running private courses. I often get asked by parents and teachers when I’m going to run Relax Kids for Adults.  It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a while but to be honest I wasn’t sure whether people were just kidding, but on speaking to quite a few people, putting the question out there on my Relax Kids Basingstoke Facebook page and still getting asked I thought I would just go for it, and so I bring to you a relaxation class for adults which follows the Relax Kids 7 steps to relaxation that all my classes follow.

The class will be a nice gentle class which runs through the move, play, stretch, feel, breathe, believe, relax steps of Relax Kids but worry not, there won’t be a noisy dinosaur in sight!  I’m planning something a little more serene to fit in with what people want.  We will be doing some mindful walking, mindful observation, some gentle stretching, massage, breathing exercises and then spending a chunk of time on the relaxation while I take people through various scripts which will relax their bodies bit by bit, giving them time to refocus, recharge and just relax; something that we don’t do enough of in my opinion.

And it can only be a good thing! If children see their parents relaxing chances are they will find it easier to relax.  We live in such a fast paced world where everyone is constantly busy and with access to so much technology it’s hard not to get caught up in it and totally switch off and our children just model our behaviour!

My intention is to run a daytime relaxation class and an evening relaxation class and I will have piloted this (by the time my guest post appears) with some friends who have volunteered to be ‘relaxed’ so I’m hopeful that I won’t have to make too many changes to the session and somewhat cheekily ( given NorthHantsMum has given me this opportunity to share what I’m doing) I’m rather hoping the lovely Louise (NHM) (as a volunteer for my pilot group) might say a few words about how she felt following the session!! (NHM: I am so gutted I couldn’t make this session as I’ve been sick for the past week but am hoping to make a 1-2-1 session with Kath soon so I will report back when I’ve had my session!)

The session went really well, I had 5 very relaxed ladies as you will see from the picture above! They all said that they loved the ‘me’ time and that they really felt the benefits of totally clearing their minds.  I ran a 1-2-1 session earlier in the day and was told that the plan had been to use the relaxation time to plan the week, but my volunteer was pleasantly surprised that she was able to totally clear her mind and benefit from the relaxation time.  I can’t ask for better than that!

I had some great feedback on having a ‘relaxing voice’ which of course is a major thing when it comes to relaxation and something I wasn’t sure about, after most of us don’t like the sound of our own voice!! But for me I think the best bit was getting the best night sleep I’ve had in a long time!! Even though I was delivering the session it still felt very relaxing, so if it has that impact on me, I’m hopeful it will on others too!! Maybe I’ll have to run classes every night so I get the benefits too :0)

So here is a great excuse to switch off!
