Review 2018: Pots To Doodle Do

Thank you very much to today’s NHM Secret Reviewer! She’s done a fab job!

Review 2018: Pots To Doodle Do

First of all, I haven’t been asked to review Pots to Doodle Do by anyone – I’m doing it as someone who booked to make some Christmas baubles and was so impressed and pleased with the results I wanted to share!

I booked in to Pots to Doodle Do after seeing a Facebook post about making decorations for the Christmas tree.  I have a toddler and a 4 month old and having been to various other places to do such things previously I thought I knew what to expect…..

How wrong was I?? I was slightly apprehensive about dealing with paint and a toddler while no doubt having to feed the baby (always happens doesn’t it?!) but Tracey could not have been more helpful! In other places we’ve just been left with the items we’ve chosen and the paint and got on with it – not this time, Tracey put the paint on the toddlers’ hand and the baby’s foot, stamped it onto the bauble then cleaned them up.  Sounds simple but I’m sure parents will understand where I’m coming from……….

We then had access to a huge array of paint, sponges, brushes and stickers to let the creative juices flow.  We were given a booklet with some photos of previous creations to give us direction if needed and Tracey made sure everyone got what they wanted from the experience, around to help if needed, checked on us and the progress but we didn’t feel rushed at all – a delicate balance it achieve!

The finished products were collected a week later and are brilliant – well worth the effort and importantly not expensive.

The location in Cliddesden is fairly simple to find and there’s parking by the village pond.  Once inside it’s warm and welcoming, there’s hot drinks and snacks available to purchase and Tracey goes out of her way to put you at ease (I was terrified of my toddler and ceramics……..)  By far the best experience of all so far!

Clare Amanda Photography

Is your family your highest priority?  Mine certainly is.  First, I am a wife to a very supportive husband and a mother to a beautiful daughter.  Second, I am Clare of Clare Amanda Photography, a family lifestyle photography service who appreciates your highest priority – your family.

I specialise in capturing moments in time of your family life as it really is…the cuts and bruises, the missing milk teeth, the freckles and messy hair and the joy and laughter of play.  This is on-location photography, either in a nearby beauty spot or in your own beautiful home and garden.  I will happily travel to any RG post code area covering much of the North Hampshire and Berkshire areas.

Your session will be kept relaxed and fun, focussing on the interactions between the people in your family and your hobbies or pastimes if you wish.  For a full session, you will be my only booking of the day giving you and your family time to warm to me and be comfortable, while also allowing time for snacks and naps (both of which can also be great for capturing these memories).   Pets – well, they too are a part of your family, so of course they should be included in your photographs.

If you haven’t got the luxury of a day and would still like some beautiful family photography, I also offer a mini-session of around 30 minutes, although this isn’t suitable for very young children or pets as they take a little longer to work with.

Following your session, you will have the opportunity to purchase from a selection of high quality canvas prints or beautifully mounted and framed printed images to suit the walls of any home.  They will be products you will be proud to show off in your home.  With each printed photograph, you will receive a complimentary digital version of that image.  If you prefer, you can purchase just the digital versions of your photographs, for both printing and for sharing digitally.

Bookings can be made for any weekday or Saturday.  I prefer to keep evenings and Sundays free for my precious family time.

If you’d like to chat to discuss what I can do for you, you can find my contact details on my website, www.clareamanda.co.uk.  You can also head on over there to see what I can offer you.

Remember, your children won’t stay young forever, but these photographs will make lasting memories.

Simply Magical ART

About Simply Magical ART

My name is Helen Heath and I am the founder and Manager of SmART.

I am 37 and live with my husband and 8 year old son in Basingstoke. Art has always been a big part of my son’s home experiences from when he was very young, recently I have noticed he seems to use it as a way of calming himself or de-stressing.

The club is something I have been considering for some time and felt that now was the right moment to move forward with it. I am just starting out with this new venture and am as excited as i am nervous! This club is very close to my heart, as well as something I think is really needed in our local community.

After an almost overwhelming response from the local school’s Facebook page I decided to steam onwards.

What is it?

Simply Magical Art (SmART) is an opportunity for Junior aged children to explore and develop a range of skills, though the focus will be to use art as a way of relaxing and escaping. There will be no pressure to do something a particular way instead children will be encouraged to explore doing things using their own creativeness.  Each child will have an A3 display book (provided by us) in which to keep their ongoing projects. Though all children work at a different tempo we will attempt to give each one the time they need for each new skill we learn.

Projects

I am looking at teaching a range of skills that I learnt when younger and went to Art classes at the end of a Local artists garden, she had a tiny shed that was her art studio. I remember these classes with great clarity, they were my favourite time, my parents still have some of the things I made hanging in their houses. I hope we do as well, and make things parent’s treasure and children are proud of.

Some planned projects include: Pencil drawing, watercolour, studying a range of famous Artists styles, graffiti Art, Modelling animals, mosaic, decoupage and many, many more.

Children will also have a chance to put their ideas on the ‘ideas tree’ letting me know anything they would really like to spend some time studying. Throughout the year we will also have special projects for mothers day, easter, christmas etc

Exciting Developments

We have already been awarded a small grant, and are in the process of getting permission to decorate a local underpass as part of next years Art in Unexpected places Festival being run by Basingstoke and Dean borough council.

I am also looking at including other sessions for Infant aged children as well as whole day sessions during the holidays.

Contact and details

At present classes are planned to be held in Westside community centre in Oakridge (beside Oakridge Junior school). They will be held on Wednesday from 3.30 until 5pm with a collection from the Oakridge Junior School. Also Saturdays from 9.30 – 11am. I am currently charging £5 per session and asking for half terms fee in advance. Classes will start as soon as I have enough children registered to cover hall and resources costs.
