Review 2015: Smallprint – Silver Jewellery Keepsakes

I met Liane from Smallprint through the NorthHantsMum networking evenings that I host. A few months ago she asked me if I would like to review her work and I said, sure, why not.

You see, I’m not your average girl and I don’t really do jewellery. I wear my wedding and engagement ring but I haven’t worn any type of necklace or earrings since my wedding day 6 years ago!

So we arranged for Liane to pop round to mine one evening after work. Liane asked me which of her products I would like and, being a non-jewellery type, I picked out a finger print necklace as I haven’t worn a necklace for so long.

Liane brought all of her kit with her, which wasn’t anywhere near as much as I was expecting! Lol.

She rolled out the mould flat and lined it up very correctly with her spacers which help to ensure that the jewellery is an even thickness.

The ‘moulding compound’ is Precious Metal Clay. It’s clay packed full of fine silver (recycled from Mitsubishi’s car manufacturing process). Liane takes the prints into it, and when it’s fired the clay burns off, the silver fuses together and leaves a fine silver piece of handcrafted jewellery that’s been physically touched by someone you love.

It was all very exacting.

Liane then asked Miss NHM if she could wipe her finger with some wash and then press her finger into the mould. Miss NHM was very happy to oblige as she found the whole process fascinating! Lol. Liane pressed Miss NHM’s finger very carefully into the mould so that it left a print.

Once the print had been taken Liane then asked me to pick out a cutter for the shape of the print. I chose a heart as this seemed most appropriate. Liane then very carefully aligned the finger print in the heart and pressed down to create a lovely heart shape.

And that was that! It took less than 5 minutes. I was very impressed as it was just before Miss NHM’s bed time and I had no idea how long it would take!

Liane advised me that it would take about a month to get the necklace back to me and she would also have “Miss NHM” inscribed on the pendant, with a kiss. I decided to have Miss NHM as only a few people who are close to me know about NorthHantsMum and most people wouldn’t guess! Lol.

So, a couple of weeks later Liane contacted me to say that my necklace was ready. It normally takes 4-5 weeks to get your order back to you but in an emergency Liane can turn it round in a week.

She arrived with a BEAUTIFUL black bag which I was sooooo excited about opening!

The packaging was so thoughtfully put together.

It included instructions for how to look after my necklace.

And then I took off the leaflets to find my necklace. WOW! I loved it immediately! I was literally overcome with emotion when I saw it, which I really hadn’t expected!

I put it on immediately and Miss NHM kept sitting on my lap and putting her finger in the finger print and saying, “it’s beautiful Mummy, just like you!”. I literally had to choke back the tears and I’m definitely not that type of girl normally!

I absolutely LOVE my necklace!

I wear my necklace as often as I can. It’s a lovely piece of jewellery and I know it’s going to become a family heirloom. Miss NHM still loves coming up to me when I’m wearing it and puts her finger in the fingerprint and saying “that’s my fingerprint because I love you Mummy” and I tell her that it’s her fingerprint and that I will keep it with me always. Soooo cute.

I highly recommend Liane at Smallprint’s work. I was so impressed that she came round to take the print and is clearly very passionate about her work. Smallprint have also recently been recognised at the Baby and Toddler awards for their work.

Smallprint, the national keepsake company with a presence in North Hampshire and Berkshire, has won the silver award at the “Best Baby & Toddler Gear Awards 2015”. Its “High Five” pendant was voted by judges and consumers to be among the very best gifts and keepsakes for parents.

The annual awards, organised by mums’ website Mumii, is among the largest consumer choice surveys in the country. As well as product testing short-listed items, Mumii also invites members of the public to vote for their favourites.

This is obviously a great endorsement for Smallprint and the products they offer. With Christmas just around the corner, now is the time for people to be thinking about the perfect gift for a loved one, or friend. Baby & Toddler Award winners make for a pretty good list of ideas, Smallprint included!

Smallprint’s “High Five” items replicate a baby or child’s actual hand print in silver. The company also produces the same for foot prints, writing and drawings. Arguably its most emotive products are its range of fingerprint jewellery pieces, where the print is made direct onto the piece, without the use of moulds or casts.

Smallprint also offer a range exclusively for pets too.  Check out Liane’s Silver Pet Prints Page at
