I hope you all had a great weekend. I know this isn’t really a relevant topic but I felt the issue deserved a post of it’s own, especially given NHM’s 1st birthday last week.
I spend an awful lot of time putting posts together for NHM and trying to publicise them to the local parent community. Several other people also spend a lot of time putting posts together via Guest Post Wednesday and as Guest Bloggers. I like to think that we all add a little bit of value in our efforts to make your life a little bit easier. As you know, I don’t make any money from what I do at NHM, I run the blog as a hobby and it’s my opportunity to give a little bit back.
Many readers of NHM access the posts through the NHM Facebook Page. Facebook has now changed the terms and conditions for FB Pages. They now expect all Page owners to PAY to publicise their posts and status updates to people who have “Liked” their page. I am very disappointed in Facebook, but not surprised.
If you access the NHM posts via the FB Page, I urge you to hover over the “Like” button on the page and make sure there is a tick next to “Show in newsfeed”. If you don’t do this (and because I will not pay to publicise my posts) NHM status updates will only show up in the newsfeed of 10% of total number of “Likers”.
If there are any other Pages that you want to keep being informed of, it’s probably best to do the same on each of these.
If you are a NHM FB Page “Liker” I would be very grateful if you could go in and check whether NHM “shows in your news feed”. Thank you very much.
However, If you don’t have the time or energy to do this and you would like to still see the NHM posts, the best way to see the posts is to subscribe in the email address in the wordpress site HERE.
Thank you very much for your time and all of your support. Normal service will resume tomorrow. Hope you have a great weekend!
A WHOLE YEAR!!!! NorthHantsMum has been running for a whole year! YAY! A couple of points to note at this momentous and poignant moment… (well it’s a momentous and poignant moment for me even though it isn’t for anyone else! lol)
Thoughts (in no particular order)
How can it possibly be a whole year since I started NHM? How?
I have learnt so much in the last 12 months some of which are:
- how to be a better parent
- how to set up a successful blog
- how to type single handedly
- how wonderful it is to introduce other people to each other
- and many, many other things.
I never, ever expected NHM to be as successful as it has. I couldn’t have done it without all of the support and encouragement from you all. Thank you.
Extra specially BIG thanks go out to my husband and daughter. Without them I never would have had the inspiration for NHM or started the blog. They are my world.
(Yes, I appreciate this is starting to sound like an Oscar speech but I will stop in a minute! lol)
Special thanks to all of my friends who have supported NHM, written posts and given feedback (whether they wanted to or not!): Sophie, Abigail, Claire, Jo, Su, Kate, Laura, Mel, Hilary, Martina and everyone else who has supported and encouraged me.
- Over 800 readers and still more every day.
- 262 posts published
- Three different interfaces that people connect to NHM via:
- 22 “Lists” set up on Facebook (under the NHM Friend), ranging from “Toddler Classes in Basingstoke” to “Local Mum Businesses”.
- 9 Guest Post’s and several more lined up. (Thanks to all of the business people for your continued support!)
So, here’s hoping to at least another year of NHM! Hopefully you will still stick around for whatever comes next!
(I am now going to go and sob quietly in a corner and drink a very small bottle of champagne to celebrate!! YAY! Normal service will resume on Monday.)
Happy Weekend to all you wonderful NHM Readers and thank you again for reading and contributing!
I’m on holiday this week and I had the best intentions. I was going to spend two hours a day working on my blog, when my little one was asleep. I had great plans for updating Pages, putting posts together and getting the survey ready. Then the sun started shinning and it all went out the window.
This week I have been mostly outside enjoying the fabulous sunshine. Even in the evening I’ve been out in the garden, pottering around, rather than being tied to the computer. For the first time in a long while I don’t feel guilty about it. NHM is my hobby, I work on it for the pleasure of sharing information with you and feeling like I’m giving something back. Now that the sun is shining (and who knows how long that will last!) I’m going to enjoy it as much as I can. I hope you are able to too!
So, NHM will be a bit sporadic for the next couple of weeks. I have a few “Things to do Posts” with details of lots to do for the Easter break which I will post up, but other than that, things may be a bit quiet during Easter. It all depends on whether the sun stops shining!
I’ve been a busy bee during the Christmas period and have sorted a few changes to the blog. Hope they aren’t too confusing!
I have set up a new NHM Facebook Page which will be where all future NorthHantsMum posts will be published.
- If you click HERE you will be taken to the new NorthHantsMum FB page.
- Click on the “LIKE” button.
- Any posts added will then show up in your newsfeed, like they do if you are a friend of NHM.
The NHM Friend will still be available but I will only share information on here. The blog posts ONLY be on the NHM Page from today.
I’m putting together a survey to understand what you lovely readers would like me to focus on. If you would like to complete the survey, please let me know via Facebook or NorthHantsMum@gmail.com. If I don’t get much response I may randomly pick readers so I apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused.
This is a plea for help…I’m finding it quite difficult to keep on top of what’s going on in and near Basingstoke. I know that lots of you have great knowledge of what’s going on in the area (that’s relevant for parents) and was wondering if you could let me know when you find something that might be useful for other Parents in the area? If you have any events that you would like to publicise then please also let me know.
My husband is very supportive of NorthHantsMum and as a surprise over Christmas he organised NHM business cards and keyrings for me. Look out for these very “coveted” items (when I manage to give them out to friends who can “distribute” them for me at appropriate places!). If you would like a keyring, let me know your details and I will post you one!
I’m hoping to start building closer relationships with local businesses and would like to really get this off the ground early this year. If you are a local business and would like some free advertising and increased interest in your business, please let me know. There are over 500 parents on NHM and the number is growing every day!
Finally, I would like to thank you all of you lovely readers (again!) for all of your support on NHM. I’m so delighted that my hobby is becoming so successful and that’s thanks to YOU!
Happy New Year! Hope you all had a fantastic Christmas and marvellous New Year.I thoroughly enjoyed my two weeks off. We had a lovely first Christmas with our little one and it was so nice to connect with family and friends and not do any work or blogging! I need to get back into the swing of things though so normal service should resume this week. I’m working on moving all posts from NHM Facebook Friend (that’s NorthHantsMum ;-)) to the NHM Facebook Page. There will be more about this hopefully this week…
So, to start 2012 on NHM this post is a summary of the most popular posts that featured in 2011. (Yes, I’m being very lazy and not doing a new original post, but I’m trying to ease back in gently! lol)
Thought I would just add all of the information that I would send out via email onto a blog. That way you can add comments if you want, without everyone else having to be cc’d.
If you want to follow the blog you should be able to subscribe so that you get updates whenever I make updates.
Hope you find what I am posting useful!
If you have any feedback, please let me know.
