Guest Posts in 2012

I need to say a HUGE thank you to all of the wonderful Ladies and Gents who contributed a Guest Post to NHM in 2012. Thank you so much for your inputs and for your support. I’ve had feedback from several of you that NHM has helped increase business, which is AWESOME! Long may it continue and thank you to those of you who shared NHM’s details with your friends and networks in return and those of you who have contacted people because you’ve seen their Guest Post.

I also wanted to give a big shout out to Sophie who has been a great support from the beginning and often contributes with Guest Post’s when I’ve run out of time or inspiration. Thank you Soph.

Wendy French Reflexology

Wendy got in touch asking me to let you know about the Reflexology practice that she runs. If you are finding Christmas a bit stressful (like me!) then this could be just the thing for you!

Foot reflexology is based on the principle that there are reflex points on the feet that correspond to every organ, gland and part of the body. For example, the toes represent the head and the ball of the foot represents the chest and lung region. This means that reflexology can be used to aid a huge number of symptoms including; headaches, problems with digestion, PMS, back problems and morning sickness – to name but a few.

A full consultation is undertaken on your first visit to ascertain your lifestyle, health and diet which will allow specific reflexes to be worked to produce results.

The treatment will then begin with some general relaxation techniques, followed by a precise thumb and finger walking technique aimed at applying pressure to every reflex area on the top and bottom of the foot. Both feet are worked as part of the treatment.

If you are interested in a treatment and live in the Basingstoke area I am both fully qualified and insured to practice reflexology having passed my International Institute of Reflexology Diploma. I can visit you in the comfort of your home during evenings and weekends. At the moment I am offering a one hour treatment for only £15! Please contact me for further details.

Why not take an hour out of your busy schedule to make some time for you!

MAD Academy

Elaine contacted me asking if I could publicise the new MAD Academy classes for her. Here is her post…

MAD Academy classes for preschool children are bursting with energy and fun!  Each week we combine lively music and dance, with carefully structured learning, designed for the specific age and developmental stage of your child.

We sing and dance to lots of popular songs which you will already know, as well as a few new funky ones of our own.  Children are introduced to a wide range of music, whilst being given the chance to explore different rhythms, musical instruments and musical styles.  Dance and movement are key elements of every session and we play lots of games which are guaranteed to be fun and motivational!

As well as ensuring each child has a fantastic time, we give them the opportunity to develop confidence, motor control, physical co-ordination, and social skills, whilst learning to express themselves creatively and encouraging their natural passion for music.

Children are accompanied by an adult and we hope you will enjoy the opportunity to share some fun time with your child.  At MAD we believe in a free-spirited approach to learning which means that if your child doesn’t want to join in an element that’s fine.  The ethos at MAD Academy is a relaxed and fun time for the children and this will, we hope, rub off on you!  Come and experience it for yourself!

We’re actually restarting. The classes used to be run by Cathy, who’s now teaching classes at Hatch Warren on Friday for us…9.30 walkers to 2 yrs, 10.25 2-4 yrs, and 11.20 walkers to 4s. And it’s now run by Sarah Maskell , who’s been teaching for many years and she’ll be doing a class at 9.30 in Chineham Village Hall on a Tuesday for walkers to 4yr olds, and a class at the Salvation Army Hall in Tadley on a Wednesday for walkers to 4 year olds at 9.30.

www.madacademy.com or the MAD Facebook Page

People do need to call to book, as we only put a limited number in each class.

If you mention NorthHantsMum then the first class is free and we do a special rate for siblings and childminders.

Please call us on 01189391055 or 07771850298 to reserve a space.

Ikon Works Photography

Tasha contacted me about publicising her Photography business, Ikon Works, via the NHM Friend on FB. I love that Tasha asked first, rather than adding something to the NHM Friend Wall without checking. Tasha’s enthusiasm is infectious and this is what she came back with:

About Ikon Works

Welcome to Ikon Works – where a wonderful photographic experience awaits you. Our photographs become our collections of memories, and it’s brilliant we can document more than faces, more than smiles, more than brief moments in our relationships and lives.  Whether you know what you want, or need a little inspiration – we are here to make something personal, memorable and special really come alive!

I love my kids, but I am sure you are asking – “what does this have to do with photography?” – Answer – “NOTHING!” – I have to write something about myself and rather than sounding all serious, I thought I would make it a little off the wall – which is so much more like me.  My studio is in my home, therefore it allows me to provide a very personal experience – friendly, private, and fantastic for all kids of all ages…. even the shy one’s and the very new little tiny one’s….

I have two lovely children who are both at school come September.  I am therefore, lucky enough to be able to open on a daily basis by appointment only, between the hours of 9.30 and 4.00 – I can even open at weekend’s for those family shots when everyone can participate in the fun!  So please get in contact soon!

My website has the details of all of the services I offer – I am currently re-developing the site, the new one has an expected launch date of September 2012.

About professional photographers

Your selection of a photographer is a very personal one, based on chemistry and instinct, reputation and cost.  Ultimately talking to a photographer should lead to your piece of mind and therefore allow you to relax and enjoy your photographic session.  A professional photographer should have studied photography, have a comprehensive knowledge of how to pose their subjects, be able to use reflectors, natural light, and studio light; all this will be carefully combined with a warm, easy going personality (specifically they should have the ability to connect with their subject).  Any photographer should undertake personally the development of their skills – on all levels.  Ask your photographer what they do – although be prepared for the photography geek to surface, it’s a business which allows our passion for what we do to be demonstrated in every way – in every shoot.

Tips for photographing your kids in your time!

Get down on their level.  It is good to photograph kids from their eye level.  Toddler shots are best taken sitting on the floor, bigger one’s mean your knees are going to take a bashing – and 5/6 months then I am afraid its time to be flat on your tummy propped up on your elbow’s!! Be prepared to move around quickly though!

Light.  Windows are an amazing source of “natural” light.  For example a large window with a slightly cloudy sky outside can give you the most flattering lighting for one of the things we love out about our children “their baby soft skin”.  Give it a go!

Focus.  So many times you see a picture where everything is perfectly centre.  Instead of having the subject of the photo in the centre, try moving your camera a little to the right or left.  Technically it’s called the rule of thirds – you can have a quick read about it here: DPS – Darren Rowse (Rule of Thirds)

Thank you so much for reading my article, and I look forward to hearing from you soon!

Tasha

Thank you very much Tasha for the special offer for NHM readers and for the photography tips. I’ve had a look at the photo’s and they are lovely. Best of luck with the business!

Caterpillar Music 2012
