CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS WITH FESTIVAL PLACE

(If you’d said to me, three and a bit years ago when I started this blog, that I’d have several pictures of Keith Chegwin in a post, I wouldn’t have believed you. 😉

The fact that I met him 20 years ago when I worked as an usher at the Anvil panto 19 (!!!!) times in 20 days, is beside the point.

He’s lovely, if I remember correctly, but it was a while ago! lol.)

Christmas at Festival Place

As the countdown to Christmas begins, we’ve got a range of exciting festive activities planned this November and December to help make the season even more special for all the family.

From our annual Christmas light switch-on and extended opening hours to gift wrapping and meeting Santa himself, check out our event highlights for full details of what’s on.

CHRISTMAS EXPERIENCE

Give your children a Christmas to remember with a trip on our magical train ride through Porchester Square to visit Santa.

Open every day from 20th November–24th December,

entrance price is £4.50 per child including gift.

Photo memorabilia available from £5.

Simply turn up on the day or avoid disappointment by pre-booking your tickets via the Festival Place website.

DATES IN NOVEMBER

21ST – LIGHT SWITCH-ON AND FIREWORKS SPECTACULAR

Starting from 5.30pm in Festival Square, be entertained by Basingstoke Rock Choir; 2014 X Factor band, Concept; and local duo, Common Ground, in the lead-up to the official light switch-on at 7pm by TV favourite, Keith Chegwin.

This will be followed by a dazzling firework display.

Afterwards, Keith and other members of the Cinderella pantomime cast will meet fans and sign autographs on the Upper Level near Starbucks with entertainment continuing on-stage until 9.30pm.

23RD – MEET & GREET: PENGUINS OF MADAGASCAR

To celebrate the release of the new ‘Penguins of Madagscar’ film, come and meet the famous penguins themselves for FREE on the Upper Level near Starbucks. Taking place every hour from 11.30am–3.30pm, no advance booking is required.

THROUGHOUT NOVEMBER & DECEMBER – CHRISTMAS CRAFTS AT THE DISCOVERY CENTRE

Take part in a range of Christmas crafts at The Discovery Centre this November and December.

Workshops include a ‘Reindeer and Stars’ rustic willow decoration-making session and a Christmas Papercraft Workshop to help you create beautiful 3D decorations, table favours and a box card, alongside a series of FREE festive craft sessions just for children aged 7+.

30TH – ANNUAL SANTA PARADE

Heralding the official start of the countdown to Christmas, the festive parade featuring Santa & Friends will leave Porchester Square at midday and will arrive at Festival Square at 12.30pm.

Acts taking part in the parade include the Red Hot Santa Band, the Bouncing Elves, and the Snowball Sprites to name a few.

Following the arrival of the parade, make sure you stick around to join Basingstoke Rock Choir for a seasonal sing-a-along!

FROM 9TH – GIFT WRAPPING

Once you’ve done your Christmas shopping, relax with a coffee whilst our friendly volunteers from Shopmobility wrap your presents for you on the Upper Level by Paperchase.

£1 minimum donation to Shopmobility required.

DATES IN DECEMBER

FROM 11TH – CINDERELLA AT THE ANVIL

Enjoy a heartwarming pantomime for all the family with Cinderella at The Anvil from 11th December to 4th January.

Featuring TV personalities such as Keith Chegwin as Buttons, and CBeebies’ presenter Katy Ashworth as the Fairy Godmother, tickets are available from The Anvil’s website or direct from the Box Office.

Getting to Festival Place really couldn’t be easier. The train station is just a five minute walk away, plus we have a bus station right on our doorstep.

If you prefer to drive, we’re only a few minutes off junction 6 of the M3 and have over 2,500 spaces in our secure car park.
